Olympus SP-590 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera
Olympus SP-590 Ultra Zoom Digital Camera
12 Megapixel , 26x Optical Zoom , 2.7″ LCD, Dual Image Stabilization
Its amazing 26x wide-angle optical zoom is the longest, most powerful in the world. Get sharp shots with Dual Image Stabilization. It’s the perfect point-and-shoot camera for sports, outdoor and travel photography—or for anyone who wants an all-in-one compact camera that takes stunning pictures.
Olympus rewrote the rule book again for how powerful a point-and-shoot camera’s zoom can be with the launch of the new 26x optical zoom SP-590 Ultra Zoom. Its extremely versatile zoom lens can capture extraordinary images at virtually any distance – from a delicate flower close up to wide-angle photographs of friends posing before the vast Grand Canyon, or even images shot from the back row of the stadium that look like they were taken courtside. The Olympus SP-590UZ is the “total package” and an investment in your imaging future that is well worth making. It offers the advanced manual controls that experienced photographers demand and find on a digital SLR (single lens reflex).
Salient Features for Olympus SP-590UZ Digital Camera
12 Megapixel
At the same time, users can easily set the camera to operate like a simple point-and-shoot with automatic scene modes. It offers the compact body of an ultra zoom with the flexibility of high-performance optics usually found in interchangeable lenses for DSLR cameras, a 12-megapixel image sensor, Dual Image Stabilization, Face Detection, Ultra High-Speed Sequential shooting and a bright 2.7-inch LCD.
Powerful optical zoom
“The Olympus SP-590 UZ brings subjects closer with the world’s most powerful optical zoom, and the zoom is just one of many elements that set this camera apart. Macro to wide-angle there are no compromises,” said Nadine Clark, product manager, Olympus Imaging America Inc. “Because of its compact size and an impressive zoom range, it’s the ideal choice for travelers and everyone who enjoys the great outdoors.”
Capturing photos near, far and wide
Optical precision is the foundation for creating quality images. The bright, f2.8-5.0 lens provides the equivalent of 26-676mm focal length. Users can get close to the action with the compact 26x super telephoto zoom and at the same time, the wide-angle (26mm) lens captures more in each frame. Its super-macro capabilities capture the subtlest details. The compact lens construction combines aspherical lens elements and extra-low dispersion (ED) lens elements to deliver edge-to-edge sharpness and clarity. Whether it is capturing fast-action sports or everyday snapshots, this sturdy compact body with a wide-angle and telephoto lens provides the versatility to get the job done.

whats the olympus E-500 DSLR like?
i have just purchased an olympus E-500 (2010) and was wondering whats it like? i have read various reviews and for 5 years ago it was a very good camera. but 5 years on… is it still a good camera???
ive owned Olympus cameras for over 35years… they have never broken, despite being dropped, drenched and covered in dust… ah, i had an OM2sp which met a sad end when i dropped it from a flyover…
anyway… i bought an E500… 3years and 30 thousand activations later, it still works as good as it did the day i got it. and i batter it… its used almost every day… i do reportage weddings… its not uncommon to shoot 2000 images…
yes, of course there are better cameras, but 99% of the cameras ability, is down to the guy holding it… yes, its got all the bells and whistles… but. ill let you into an Olympus secret… Nikon owners eat your hearts out… our meters are FAR better than the opposition. and i can prove it… set 100asa, set Aperture priority, and F22. then, take it outside, at night, and just shoot the street lights… the olympus uses off the plane metering, just like thier 35mm’s… i get exposure times of over an hour if i want.. i also get 5 stops either way on all functions…. and, you can set 50asa, upto 3200, PLUS five stops …
and yes, brand loyalty… all my zuiko glass fits, my metz 45ct4 fits… and ive just bought a E510, off ebay with 8000 activations on it… for 215 quid. (compared to my E500, thats new) and, whichever way you cut it, 215 is a damn sight cheaper than a D80 at 800 quid.
and ok, Nikon lenses are better, and faster… so? they arent Leica’s, or Linhofs… or even hassleblads.. its a whole package your getting… oh. and one thing… yes, i borrowed a D80 to do a job, to check and see if my long held prejudice’s were still relavent…
the D80 weighs a ton… try holding that for 8 hours… its clunky… you can almost hear the chains on the drawbridge of the shutter on long (ha… 60 seconds is NOT long) exposures, and… AND… its blind as a bat outside at night)
sadly… all my fears were realised… ill never buy a nikon. and now, when i prise the bank managers fingers out of my pockets, ill go buy a (almost) new E3…
i would recommend an E500 to anyone… it feels right in my hand, its nice to look thru the viewfinder at things, which is bright and clear… if you havent got thousands to waste, or a boss to buy it for you… the E500 is as good as anything in its price range, if not better.
