Nikon D5000 review

The strongest points of Nikon D5000 are the 12,3-megapixel sensor, the LCD display, which rotates in 170-degree angle and the movie mode allowing HD video capture. The good part about Nikon D5000 is that you get a lot of the Nikon D90 features, but with less money. The price for Nikon D5000 digital camera starts around $600, far less than other, more sophisticated DSLR cameras. The only thing that is really missing, compared with Nikon D90 digital camera, is the build-in focus motor.

The camera has, however, the classic Scene Recognition system and Face recognition system you get with most of the recent Nikon models.

The quality of images you obtain from the Nikon 5000 digital camera is impressive, thanks not only to the 12,3-megapixel sensor, but also to high-ISO settings. Actually, this $600 camera can give you almost the same quality of images as the top-of-the-line Nikon products, which costs five times more. The Picture Control menu has pre-set shooting modes but also allows you to customize and save your own shooting modes. Basically, with Nikon D5000 you have access to the entire range of photo taking functions, from fully automatic shooting modes to manual shooting modes. Whether you are a beginner who wants to go to the next level from a point-and-shoot compact camera, or you are a passionate photographer, Nikon D5000 has something to offer you.

A good feature about the Nikon D5000 camera is the LCD display, a good-quality 2,7-inch one, that rotates in various angles, allowing you to frame pictures better and to shoot videos from virtually any position. However, there is a bit of a problem with the video recording mode. You are limited to 5 minutes video captures, which is a bit disturbing, but can be fixed in a home based movie editor. The second problem is harder to fix: while shooting video, the 11-point autofocus system is not available. The chances of you succeeding to shoot un-blurry images are quite low under those circumstances. You can lock the focus in one position or adjust it manually, but the results are far from satisfying.

Nikon D5000 takes impeccable quality pictures – it’s the best zoom power and ISO range you can get in this price range.
