What’s wrong with my Nikon F3 & FM2 cameras?
Both my Nikon F3 & FM2 have the same problem. They are locked up…The shutter won’t release or advance. Can anyone tell me what the problem may be, and how much it will cost to repair? There is just a little free-play in the shutter advance lever and depressing the shutter release does nothing.
Check your shutter to make sure it’s okay and not jammed. Make sure your shutter isn’t set for an extremely long exposure. If your shutter checks out okay, then it’s probably corrosion in the works, or something got in there and jammed it up (sand or grit?). I’m not sure how much Nikon charges to fix them, but you can get a repair estimate done by them for free. Take your cameras to a camera store and ask them to send them in for you. If not, check your paperwork for the address to send them to. I’ll check online and see if I can find it. If the estimate is more than you want to pay, they’ll just send you back the cameras as is. They might just need some internal cleaning.
