Should I get a Nikon d40 or Nikon d70 camera?
I am a photographer, wanting to upgrade on cameras. I have never owned a Nikon, but the professionals I know love them. I originally wanted a d40, since a friend swears by it, but I found a great deal on a d70 with a lot of items included:

Nikon AF-S Nikkor DX lens (18-70mm F3.5-4.5G ED)
SB-600 i-TTL Speedlight + soft case
Nikon camera strap
3 X batteries and charger
2 X 1GB flash cards (one SanDisk Ultra II 1GB and one Lexar Professional 80X ultra high speed card)
LCD cover
77mm ring converter (allows the use of 77mm filters)
77mm Tiffen UV Protector filter
At the price, it sounds like quite a deal, but since I don’t know anything about Nikons, I don’t know if it’s as good a deal as it sounds.
Which would you go for? A d40 with nothing or a d70 with everything?
Is a d40 better than d70? Any feedback greatly appreciated.
D40 and D70 image quality is about the same. D70 is two generations old, replaced by D80, which was replaced by D90 but don’t let that bother you. D70 image quality is still good.
D70 can autofocus on more lenses (including 50mm f1.8 which is a good, cheap, fast, sharp lens). D40 needs AF-I or AF-S lenses to autofocus, won’t autofocus on AF or AF-D lenses.
D70 with nothing would be better than D40 with nothing. D70 with everything? Grab it.
