Looking to buy a digital camera in the 200-350 price range.?
What is a decent digital camera for taking pictures of projects I’m working on, and maybe people, places and things. My wife has a 35MM Minolta SLR that she loves so I’ll eventually get her the Minolta Maxxum 7D as the lenses are interchangeable with her camera. I’d like to know your thoughts on which camera that you would recommend and why. I have a Mustek DV5300SE that my kids and I play around with but it is really just a toy and I’m not supper happy with the picture quality. Also, how much memory is sufficient without turning the camera in a picture repository?
Right in your price range is the Nikon S4 with a whopping 10x optical zoom, 6 Megapixel resolution, 2.5 inch LCD screen and movie capture with sound. A 512MB card is sufficient for a 6MP camera, the same goes for a 5MP camera. A 4MP and less camera does just fine with a 256MB card and a 3MP camera can get by with a 128MB card. The Nikon S4 is also a top pick over at Steves Digicams check out “THE BEST CAMERAS” section for more information, http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html
I like the Nikon S4 for its pocketable size, huge optical zoom, ability to get by on standard AA batteries though I do recommend using high capacity NiMH rechargeables (2300mAh and up) or CR-V3 Lithium batteries and it has a great price at $310. The only possible problem with this one is it does not have a view finder so you can’t turn off the LCD screen to save power, I don’t mind because you’ll get 160 shots out of it on one charge with NiMH batteries with the CR-V3 batteries you’ll get around 450 shots.
