Innovage Mini Digital Camera Help!?

I recently bought the Innovage Mini Digital Camera, and after I installed it, I cannot seem to turn it on. The instructions say to press “MODE” which I did, and nothing happends. I tried the “SNAP” button also, but again, nothing. When I plugged it into the USB port, the screen reads “PL” which is not an icon in the insturction manual. Did I get screwed on this product? Help! P&T

OK, so I actually HAVE one of these (three actually, two labeled Innovage, and one generic). You didn’t get screwed IF you paid less than $15 for it. If you paid MORE, then YES, you DID get screwed. These sell at Walgreens for $15 or less. I got mine on sale for $8.95. Mine works well, though the pictures ARE on the small side. After all, it only has 100K pixels. I keep one in the glove box with a spare battery so all I have to do is put in the battery and I am good to go. These things eat batteries even when in OFF mode, so I store the AAA cell separately. Use alkaline batteries. I tried rechargeable batteries but the voltage goes too low in a matter of an hour or so when in use, a week or so when not in use.

First, the battery. You ARE using a NEW AAA cell, right? And you put it in correctly, negative side to the coil spring like the picture shows on the tag inside the battery holder? When you insert a NEW battery correctly, it should immediately turn on and display the number 20. If not, it may have a problem. Then, try pressing the button on the FRONT which should turn it on and in the LCD window you should see the number 20. If you have to replace the battery, it WILL retain the settings for about a minute without power, so if you are quick about it, you can swap out to a new battery and NOT lose any pictures already stored. If you wait too long, it will forget everything and default back to hi res and empty memory which you will know when it wakes up with a 20 in the LCD window.

When you plugged in the USB cable, it should display PC. I think if you look at the top of the little LCD window, you will see it actually is PC not PL.. The instruction specifically tell you to install the software on CD before hooking the camera to the USB port. Did you install the software? If not, there is no way to “talk” to the camera and download any images as it takes the software package to DO that FOR you.

Now, if you get it to turn on and display the number 20, then you are in business. The camera has only 16mb internally, 20 high res pictures, 80 low res pictures. Press the front button again and the 20 should be replaced by OF, which stands for OFF. If you press the TOP button, it will turn OFF.

If you need the software, I have ISO images from 2 different mini digital cams, which are identical internally but each has a slightly different software package which came with. If you want, I can make an archive containing the 2 ISO image files available to you.

I bought mine for the parts. A friend flies model aircraft. I took one camera apart and installed it in the belly of the model airplane and then wired it with some timers and triggers into the RC electronics so we could trigger the MODE and SNAP buttons remotely. The problem was, resolution is simply too low. We got pictures, but if the camera was any more than 25-30 feet off the ground, the detail was lost in the distance.
