Camera 500D – Review From A Novice, Must Buy
Camera 500D - What can I say?
If you are looking for a DSLR, look no further!
I recently bought it, with standard 18-55 mm lens kit, and also used 10 year old EF lenses from my film EOS 300 as well. It works a treat.
I took it to a wedding and took about a thousand photos.
After seeing initial results on the camera display screen, there was a Q to get more portraits done and people were offering to buy it off me then and there!
Having seen the results on PC and HD TV, I am stunned.
And I am not a professional photographer and can not use most settings except the auto ones.
Get it, get a decent case and a couple of good SDHC cards and off you go, you wont be disappointed.
Camera 500D – From A Novice
I have very limited photographic skills, but the Canon Camera 500D is a joy to use. I had never used a SLR Camera before and have found the fact that you can use this camera on auto setting and manual a joy, I am hoping to try out the manual settings soon going very slowly. The instruction book which comes with the camera is well set out and easy to read. The pictures I have taken have turned out pretty well and because I brought a Zoom lens at the same time I have managed to get close-ups of birds by use of cropping photos to identify them better.
I would recomend this camera to any-one who like me has limited skills but would like to do better.
Thought long and hard as an enthousiastic point, click & shoot user of compact digital cameras to upgrade to the next level by buying a DSLR camera. I conducted a reasonable amount of research and eventually opted for the Camera 500D and haven’t regretted it for a second. Even in full automatic mode the quality of the photographs are quite stunning, however, to get the best out of the camera (or any camera for that matter) is to spend time learning how best to use it and the relatively simple controls makes this a fun experience with the Camera 500D. The kit is definitely value for money, however, as you progress it is very tempting to add to the kit with additional lenses, filters, external flash etc and while this is all great fun the $$$ mount up.

My DSLR and lens ?
For background, I have a Canon 300D and a 300mm lens. I need to get around 35x magnification. I have a few options to choose from:
1) buy a cheap telephoto lens for about $200 (>1500mm)
2) buy a cheap ($100) spotting scope and T mount adapter to attach the camera directly to the scope
3) buy a cheap ($100) spotting scope and universal digital camera mount so I can mount the scope on a tripod and mount the camera physically behind the eyepiece
4) buy a 2/3x teleconverter to use with my 300mm lens and then crop the photo
5) take the photo with the 300mm lens and crop
What’s your opinion on the best option. At least choose the least worst. I know that none of the options are preferable but I can’t go burning money on a $800 scope or $6000 telephoto lens. Thanks for your opinion
cheap glass is not the way to go regardless of how its mounted.
take the shot with the lens you have now. crop as needed.
