Can anyone recommend a good online guide for SLR photography?

I have a fairly basic SLR camera. Not digital though. Does that matter? I inherited the camera and don’t have the manual. I want to learn more about the camera and photography in general – does anyone know a good starting point?

Good for you.
The SLR will teach you everything you need to know, regardless of how basic it is.
Focusing, depth of field, framing the shot, lighting – it all comes as part of using this piece of kit.
If you want to go digital later, you’ll be fine as it’s probably easier.
You DO get digi SLR’s though.

Get out there and shoot anything and everything.
Maybe do small stuff – anybody can do a landscape.
Try detail like a porthole on a boat or coiled up rope, the little things that make the big picture.
Try keeping a note of your speeds and aperture settings so when you look at the prints you can see how you got that result, good or bad.

I did all this as a kid and now I have a film company that does OK.
All because I shot as much as my pocket-money would allow (and a little bit more – thanks Mum!).
