How to find the best cameras for kids

When looking for a kids camera you need to consider a number of things.

How easy is it to use?

A preschool child will get bored very quickly so the camera needs to be easy to use. A chunky camera will often be preferred whoever it is important to ensure it isn’t to big for your child’s hands.

Framing the picture

Framing a picture using the small LCD screen on the back is often difficult even for an adult so make sure you get a camera with a viewfinder, or preferably 2 as this is a lot easier for a child to use. 

Downloading the pictures

Make sure that any software that comes with the camera is compatible with your pc, don’t want to take the pictures and then not be able to download them. 

Durability

If you have a preschool child you will know they aren’t the most dainty people so make sure the  camera is robust.

Picture quality

This is obviously important but not something to get to  hung up about as most 3 and 4 year olds aren’t the greatest photographers.

Memory

Make sure this is sufficient, they tend to take a large number of pictures even if they aren’t always useable, so make sure your not having to download them every 5 minutes. Also check to see if it is expandable with SD card or similar.

Carry strap

Always useful with young ones.

Batteries

Always worth checkin out what type of batteries are needed and how many so your child can use their new camera as soon as they get it.

Digital Camera For Kids Where They Can’t Delete The Pictures?

I am trying to find a camera for my daughter that doesn’t allow her to delete the pictures when she is done taking them or looking at them. She had one before, the vtech and she always went in and deleted the pictures before we could see them, and my husband and I love to look and keep the pictures that she takes. Just wondering if this feature is available in a digital camera??

I don’t think there is. Reason, if you couldn’t delete you’d have to buy memory card after memory card.

Also, with memory cards, you shouldn’t delete on your computer because that can corrupt the card so it goes in the trash and then you’re still buying card after card.

Being a grand father I’d just ask her to never delete before mom and dad have a chance to see them.
There is one more consideration as well. Digital cameras and cards are not intended to be viewing devices. All photos on a card should be uploaded and viewed that way because again, cards can fail if used as storage / viewing devices.
