Entry-Level Digital Cameras For Every Budget
Vacation to a beach or resort hotel — security should not be a problem, so you can carry a camera bag, allowing more gear.Recommended: most shots will be scenics — pictures on the beach or around the pool, plus people pictures, so don’t need a powerful 10x zoom lens. Rather go for a 3x zoom that’s as wide as possible at the wide end of the zoom. You can fit a lot more into a picture at 28mm (equivalent) focal length than at 35mm. Alternatively, if budget allows, a digital SLR with a wide angle zoom lens, but can be a burden to carry around.
The Canon Rebel T1i (aka 500D) has improvements over its predecessor, the Rebel XSi in image sensor size, going from 12.2 to 15.1 megapixels. Also improved is the upgrade from DIGIC 3 to DIGIC 4 processor which allows for the brand new Video capture feature (also not available in the Rebel XSi). And finally, Creative Auto is new in the T1i.Creative Auto makes the transition from point and shoot to DSLR much easier. It allows new DSLR users to learn how to use the new DSLR camera while still taking fantastic photos with the creative presets in the camera software.When you combine the Canon Rebel T1i with an equally advanced lens that has Image Stabilization, there is no limit to the amazing photos you will be taking.
As with all things digital, digital cameras have rapidly dropped in price over the last few years. With that means basically is that you can get a camera today with SLR technology that’s probably as inexpensive as you would have paid for simple point-and-shoot digital just a few years ago. One of the first digital cameras I purchased, going back every five or six years now was nothing more than a simple point-and-shoot Canon, but ended up costing me close to $1000. When I see what I can get today for thousand dollars in digital SLR cameras, it’s ridiculous.
Digital cameras come in every size, shape, color, and price range these days. Obviously, adults enjoy the benefits of digital photography, but what about children? Should a child have a digital camera? Some experts say that when children take photographs, they learn to see the world around them from a different perspective and they sometimes show enhanced creativity. As a parent, you’ll have the privilege of seeing things from their perspective and may even learn new things about your child through the pictures they take with their own camera.
There is a long line of Digital Rebels, beginning with the original Digital Rebel 300D. At that time, there were no 3 character combinations to remember like XSi, XT1, or JQ2. These letters are hard to keep in mind if you don’t already own one of the cameras they represent. One thing that has remained constant is the number system that Canon uses. It started with the Rebel 300D and each new entry has added 50. So there was the Digital Rebel 350D, 400D, and now we are up to the 500D which is the T1i.
The Sylvania NB530SLX Blu-ray player is extremely easy to use, which is a blessing for many not-so-tech-savvy consumers. It is literally a plug and play device where it is ready to use almost immediately after the power socket and the connector is plugged in. The picture quality of the Blu-ray movies were excellent, and it also up-converted DVD movies really well (better than some more expensive models out there). The only issue is the load time for Blu-ray movies that averages about 30 seconds for every movie. So long as the video playback is excellent, I have no qualms over that. Due to a low price tag, simple feature set, and good video quality, the Sylvania NB530SLX Blu-ray player looks set to stay on top of the bestseller’s charts for the next few months. Currently, it retails for around d $160 each, making it one of the cheapest Blu-ray model in the market.
Second is HD Video and Creative Auto. No, this is not a typo. The two features that make the Rebel T1i cost more than the XSi are the reasons for buying the T1i rather than the XSi. If that does not make sense, consider this. Almost all point and shoot digital cameras have video capability, and they have an LCD screen with a preview of the photo that is about to be taken. Not all DSLRs have these two features. In fact the Rebel XSi does not, but the T1i does have them. Actually, Creative Auto is a lot more technologically sophisticated than a live view on the LCD screen, but suffice it to say that the photographer you are thinking of will really appreciate it.
You brought the latest digital camera costing a fortune and are all set to explore the photographer in you. You hurriedly go through the manual and are impatient to start shooting. You take out your camera and flaunting it you start taking pictures. Some are good but many are not. When you transfer it onto your computer most of the pictures you have taken turn out to be disappointing and you start wondering if the camera is having some defect. You even take the camera to an event only to find that the pictures are not what you expected out of such an expensive camera. Well, the fault lies in your usage and technique of photography. Some people take good photographs on a simple entry level digital camera and some can’t even take decent photographs on an expensive all equipped digital SLR. Thus your technique and knowledge of your camera helps you in taking good pictures and not the camera itself.
Compacts appeal to a wide variety consumers because they are incredibly similar to entry-level cameras. They offer photographers of all skill sets the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of designs, models and a wide array of features when they are choosing a digital to purchase. You are certain to find that there are several other types of digital camera that will provide superior results as compared to a compact. However compacts remain the popular choice for many consumers, especially those headed on a holiday that need a camera capable of quickly taking lots of pictures.
With that little caveat out of the way, lets press on. Now if your more of a ready, fire, aim shopper, your going to like this next little bit. As a rule, it’s pretty hard to buy a bad digital SLR camera in today’s market. I’m not just referring to the fact that manufacturers and retailers are fiercely competing for consumer dollars in a tight economy. That’s been going on for years with digital cameras. The other good thing, is that competitiveness has also driven up the quality, features and technology of cameras at a fevered pitch.
Is an SLR camera really worth the extra money? I know I’ve taken some pretty amazing photographs using just a simple, cheap point and shoot camera. I’m sure everyone has. Sometimes it’s just a matter of being at the right place, and recognizing a moment that would make a memorable photo. So, is buying a camera like the Olympus E510 SLR really necessary? Maybe. It’s true that a good tool in the hands of a competent artist can create great art, but lets carefully examine that tool before jumping to any conclusions.

I am considering buying the Kodak M1073 10.2 Megapixel 3X Optical Zoom Digital Camera. Whew; long name. I would like to know, from personal experience or a reputable source, what this camera rates in video capture. I know it takes great HD photos but hear little about the video capabilities. What kind of videos would it be good for?
