What digital camera can capture images most closer to reality?
I have a high-end consumer camera, but still the dynamic range is too low. Especially in sunny days, when the highlights appears completely white, and some details in darker areas completely black. This is a common problem for all digital cameras, or only for some?
All three answers are good and por has a great solution for you, but if you’re not up to that techincally, just underexpose this type of image but up to -2.0 EV and accept the loss of shadow detail. Try stepping down in increments of -0.3 EV and see how it goes. I keep my LCD set to flash on the highlights immediately after an exposure. A quick glance will tell me if I need to stop down and try again. You can massage the shadow detail in Photoshop, but you can never add detail to an area that has been burned out with no detail in the highlights at all.
And by the way, my D200 set on “Adobe RGB” color space has great dynamic range. This is much better than sRGB. I suppose RAW would be even better, but I have not advanced to that level yet.
