i love the canon’s design over sony’s [and the features; i have owned the original powershot], but the sony has more & better reviews on bestbuy and also better video.
i want whatever i choose to take good action shots & be more advanced than a standard point & shoot;
i love photography but cant afford an SLR or anything more expensive than the above [so please dont suggest anything else]

A better site to check than bestbuy would be a website like dpreview ( http://www.dpreview.com/ ) which is purely focussed on camera reviews.

There isn’t really much difference between the two. The Sony has a rechargable battery which generally offers better battery life than AAs, but that isn’t a huge downside.
Overall, go with the one you were originally drawn to, the Canon. Canon make great cameras anyway, so you can’t go far wrong.
