I’d go with the Canon G9 because of its better image quality. It has less noise in photos taken in low lighting conditions. The Nikon P5100 is smaller, and handles much better with its pronounced hand grip. Both allow you to attach an external flash, however the G9 will be less unbalanced with this additional weight. The G9 has a greater optical zoom, which gives it more flexibility to shoot high quality shots at telephoto range. Remember that these cameras also allow you to take pretty high quality videos too, so that’s a bonus.
