The Panasonic Lumix DMC FS62 is one of the cheaper pocket cameras. Face detection?
It’ll find up to 15 faces, so all you have to do is find 15 people to pretend to be your friends. Panasonic reckons it’ll work even if a face moves or turns into profile.
There are many digital cameras available for less than £100, but very few of them are worth buying. The image stabiliser offers Mode 1, Mode 2 and a new Auto mode; while the Face Detector can recognise up to 15 faces and allows continuous AF/AE adjustment even if a face turns sideways. The camera, which boasts a 4x Leica DC Vario-Elmarit zoom lens.
Responding to market demand, Panasonic is pleased to announce a new addition to the simple and stylish Lumix FS series expands its line-up with the DMC-FS62. Compact and slim, the 10.1-megapixel FS62 offers all of the features inherent to the popular FS series, including ease of use, high specification, and good looks.
Intelligent Auto
Panasonic incorporated Intelligent Auto mode in pursuit of the ultimate ease of operation and the reduction of misshots. Comprising of four major functions (MEGA O.I.S, Intelligent ISO Control, Face Detection and Intelligent Scene Selector) that work together to provide the best possible shooting results everytime. The two most advanced countermeasures against blurring – MEGA O.I.S (Optical Image Stabiliser) to compensate for hand-shake and Intelligent ISO Control to detect and suppress motion blur – are built into the FS6 and FS7.
Zoom in
The 10.1-megapixel DMC-FS62 digital camera packages a bright F2.8 Leica DC VARIO-ELMARIT lens with 4x optical zoom into a slim, compact body. The zoom ratio can be extended up to7.1x in 3-megapixel recording using the Extra Optical Zoom. By using the central part of the CCD, this powerful zooming function allows you to easily capture and magnify distant subjects.

Olympus or Panasonic waterproof camera?
I’ve decided to buy a new camera and think one of the following will suit my needs:
Olympus Stylus Tough 6000 or 8000
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT1 or DMC-TS1
I’m a bit confusing on the release dates as there’s been rumors of people ordering Olympus ones and getting it already but it says pre-order.. and the Panasonic shows its in stock but somewhere said not released til April on Amazon.
I’m also a bit confused on which Panasonic is for the U.S.? I’d prefer to buy it in a store because I may have problems, but don’t mind ordering online.
In the case I ended up with one of the European versions what other extras would I have to buy to make it work here? And does anyone know if the warranty is covered?
Lastly… what do ya know of either camera review wise? I’m not an expert photographer, but I like something with a nice crisp picture and nice video recording. Thanks for the help!
If you live in the US, you will want to buy the US model .. If you buy a “gray market” camera from outside the US, you will not have a warranty on the camera.
The US version is called the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 and is supposed to ship in April for $399
