Should I get a Camelbak which sits on my back, or a waistpack?
Now that summer is here I’ve started riding my bike long distances (well… for me anyway!) I know the thing which infinitely improves the way I feel when I exercise is hydration. A Camelbak seems like the perfect solution for me.
I used to only think of Camelbak as the back-pack type water storage, but then I saw these fanny-pack type things. I realized that my shoulders are usually the first place I feel sore while riding my bike, and it occurred to me, it probably wouldn’t help to add something on top of my shoulders. Of course, I also wouldn’t want a fanny-pack to be bobbing up and down while I ride and getting in the way… that would be annoying!
I like having more water opposed to less, a 45 oz waist pack is only slightly less expensive than a 70 oz backpack.
What would you recommend? What are some of the pros and cons of each and what is your experience?
i have used the backpack style a lot. it is a good amount of water, but if you want it to stay colder longer, it may disappoint. it’s not a very significant amount of weight though, so i couldn’t imagine it adding to shoulder pain, although i’m not sure how it is for you.
as for the fanny pack: aside from looking extremely nerdy, it would definitely get in the way while cycling unless of course, you turned it to face the rear. solves that problem. doesn’t hold as much water, but all in all, it’s a matter of preference.
